GREEN ROADS 1213




Design Collective worked with The Goldenberg Group, Hines and ASB Real Estate Investments to design 1213 Walnut Street, a new mixed-use, multifamily high-rise in Center City. The site, bounded by Walnut Street to the south and Sansom Street to the north, is home to a 26-story tower, featuring 322 units, approximately 13,500 square feet of amenity space and 7,200 square feet of ground floor retail space. Extensive building amenities include a skyline terrace, an indoor/outdoor fitness center, and elevated dog park terrace. The project achieved LEED Silver certification with the U.S. Green Building Council.

Cherokee Nation citizen Lanae Mike performs a straight razor shave on a client, one of her specialties at 1213 Barber Co. in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Mike is one of few female licensed barbers in the area.

The open living area of Beachside Villas 1213 includes a soft dove gray couch and love seat with a unique chocolate colored leather topped ottoman table facing a wall-mounted flatscreen TV. The cozy couch converts into a queen-sized sleeper sofa for additional bedding. Sliding glass doors lead out to the covered patio that looks out on a lawn accented by palm trees. The interior décor includes a big sea turtle with a weathered beach-inspired hardwood frame above the couch and photos of seascapes elsewhere. The handsome open kitchen features dark stainless steel appliances, white cabinetry, a sunny window over the sink, and a mottled granite topped counter bar with four plush cushioned stools for entertaining.

Abstract:Fuel cells as clean power sources are very attractive for the maritime sector, which is committed to sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas and atmospheric pollutant emissions from ships. This paper presents a technological review on fuel cell power systems for maritime applications from the past two decades. The available fuels including hydrogen, ammonia, renewable methane and methanol for fuel cells under the context of sustainable maritime transportation and their pre-processing technologies are analyzed. Proton exchange membrane, molten carbonate and solid oxide fuel cells are found to be the most promising options for maritime applications, once energy efficiency, power capacity and sensitivity to fuel impurities are considered. The types, layouts and characteristics of fuel cell modules are summarized based on the existing applications in particular industrial or residential sectors. The various research and demonstration projects of fuel cell power systems in the maritime industry are reviewed and the challenges with regard to power capacity, safety, reliability, durability, operability and costs are analyzed. Currently, power capacity, costs and lifetime of the fuel cell stack are the primary barriers.
